Aval Uppma / Poha uppma

Aval uppma is one of the easiest and healthy morning breakfast. This not require much ingredients. I do this when i get up late in the morning, it is time effective and taste good. Aval is nothing but flattened rice.

There are two types of aval - Thick and paper thin aval. I use paper thin aval which is more easy to prepare. Thin aval uppma is more tasty than thick aval. North Indians call it poha. This recipe is one of the easiest dish to do in morning for working ladies, bachelors.

North Indians use potato in this recipe. I like to add some vegetables which makes this aval uppma a perfect nutritional breakfast. My dad and i like to eat it with coconut chutney. Can even pair with coriander chutney.

Ingredients:

Aval / Poha - 1 cup (paper thin)
Onion - 1 chopped
Green chili - 2 chopped
Channa dhal - 1 tsp
Mustard seed and urud dhan - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - pinch
Ginger finely chopped
Curry leaves - 4/ 5
Oil - 1 tbsp
Coriander leaves to garnish

Method :

1) Wash and fill aval with water and pinch of salt, let it soak for 5 mins so that aval/ poha absorbs water and puffs up.

2) Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urud dhal, when it splatter add curry leaves, green chlli, channa dhal, finely chopped ginger, onion required salt and cook for 2 mins.

3) Add soaked aval/ poha and mix well. Cook it for just one minute.

4) Garnish with coriander leaves and remove from flame.

5) Serve hot and enjoy the breakfast.

Notes:

1) If doing with thick aval, soak it in water for 10 mins minimum with salt.

2) Instead of channa dhal you can also use roasted peanuts.

3) You can add few vegges like carrot, beans after sauteing onions. Saute until half cooked and continue the rest.
